The All Golds entertain Swindon St George this Saturday kick off 2.30pm at St Peter’s Sports’ Ground Gloucester GL4 0DD in the Southern Conference League. The sides last met in the ferocious match dubbed the Battle of Bristol last Summer when the All Golds triumphed narrowly to lift the West of England title. This much anticipated local derby will be equally hard fought in the Gloucestershire sunshine .
The Golden Fern will be seeking a further victory after triumphing in the Welsh capital on their last outing whilst Swindon will want to open their account after reverses against Torfaen and Cardiff. However St George has been the most successful West of England club in recent seasons with a number of titles secured. As a result the Rugby Football League had no hesitation in promoting them to the new Southern Conference League.
Head Coach Marcus Brown has wrung the changes again as he seeks a settled combination:
“We are looking forward to the local derby and for the boys to go for their third consecutive win in the league.
We are still striving for consistency and an 80 minutes performance.”
Tom Gaffney (pictured – right) will fill the number 1 shirt and thus the full back role. The promising Mason Robbins will continue on the wing wearing number 2 and tough tackling Jack Wear will make his club debut in the back three of the pack having recovered from a serious facial injury and will don the number 11 jersey. There will be added spice to the occasion as Ireland international Paul Bolger will be lining up for the All Golds against his former club.
All Golds’ squad and shirt numbers for Saturday – 1 Tom Gaffney, 2 Mason Robbins, 3 Luke Kell, 4 Kaine Dimech, 5 James Royle, 6 Luke Stephens, 7 Joe Uren, 8 Paul Bolger, 9 Sean Roberts, 10 Mike Addis, 11 Jack Wear, 12 Ash Lewis, 13 Dale Cooper, 14(18) Mitch Dent, 15 Dean Cooper, 16 Marcus Brown, 17 Sam Jones TR Campbell Hills, TR Hector Silva.
