Head Coach Lee Greenwood has made no secret of the fact he would like to add a couple of forwards to his squad and he’s acted by signing Alex Davidson from the North Wales Crusaders. The arrival of Davidson couldn’t have come at a better time after injuries to Jamie Crowther and Ash Haynes at Oldham last weekend.
Davidson, a former Salford Red Devil, has played most of his professional career at prop and achieved international honours when he played for England under 16s against the French in 2009. In 2011 he made his Super League debut for the Red Devils when he played in the win against Hull Kingston Rovers. He also made 2 Super League appearances for the Diables Rouges against Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos in the 2013 campaign.
After spells at Oldham and North Wales Crusaders he has signed for the Golden Fern and goes straight into contention for the home game against York on Saturday. He was at Oldham on Sunday to see his new team mates run the league leaders close and said: “ Obviously I’m delighted to have signed. I’m really looking forward to get going. I love the defensive side of the game, closing down the opposition and tackling. I’m really hopeful we can make a serious push for a top 6 place this season.”
Lee Greenwood was delighted at securing the services of Davidson. He said: “I’m really happy to have signed him, especially on a permanent deal. He’ll have his first training session on Tuesday with us and is obviously in contention for the York game after the two injuries we suffered at Oldham. He’ll add more depth to our squad, competition for places is what we want.”
The All Golds would like to thank Ian Blease at Signature Sports Management for his efficiency in getting the deal signed.
